Term 2 looks really exciting already!!!

Our Kaupapa for Term 2 this year is Myths and Legends.

With all the money our classroom made at the Twilight Market the kids, whanau and I have been discussing what we might like to do with our earnings.

We had a whole class discussion and recorded the kids ideas of where we might go;
 get this...

I like the one in the left upper corner the best... "go to the Moon!!"
Our kids are awesome!

So we tallied up our notes and coins and added it all up. We then looked at our budget and decided that we had to let go of some of the more expensive destinations like 'the Gold Coast', 'the moon' and 'Disneyland'.  We thought about our Kaupapa in Term 2 - Myths and Legends.

Our kids were very serious about it all and after much thinking and discussing they ended up choosing CRYSTAL MOUNTAIN in West Auckland.

We did more research and found a Myth that we could study, called:

"Whaitere the Enchanted Stingray"

a beautiful story that tells of an enchanted Stingray, Whaitere.
Whaitere is inconsolable when her parents unexpectedly leave her, so she journeys all the way to the underworld in search of them.  Whaitere eventually finds her parents who show her the magical sights of their new home, the underworld.  They take her to Crystal Caves, and explain that each sparkling crystal she can see embedded in the cave walls represent all the songs and languages of every creature in the sea.

We are lucky to be able to begin our Myths and Legends topic with such a neat trip!
- To all the parents that helped and supported us at the Night Market, nga mihi nui, this was your idea and your hard work and we are immensely lucky to have such cool, dedicated whanau.

Special mentions;

Whaea Elizabeth - LeOne's Mum
Whaea Collett - Diezel's Mum
Whaea Teneal - Khian's Mum
Whaea Josie - Naomi's Mum
Whaea Shandeen - Anahera's Mum

Whaea Oronsay,
Matua Darryn
Tayric's Koro

for their generous contributions

Matua Desmond for organising it all
Matua Dudley for fully supporting us and
Mrs Dawson for allowing these cool things to happen

and to all the other whanau that stepped up on the day offering help and support.

Our haerenga for Week 1 of Term 2,
will be to Crystal Mountain to find our own sparkling Crystals just like Whaitere.

Best Whanau EVER!

Tuakana Teina experience in Ruma Tui23 - April 2015

So the Ruma Kahu (Rm 20) girls came into our class this week to share some of their learning with us juniors... My Year 1 and 2 tamariki were very excited to have the girls in our room!
The girls had made their own activities to help us learn Te Reo Maori. It was so much fun and every time I looked around the seniors and juniors were completely focussed and intent.

Te Uwhinga and Matariki
- created their own Te Reo resource to teach a small group of juniors; Knixon and Hine are shown here working hard!!  My tamariki loved the chance to hang out with the senior girls and found the activities really fun. They're probably wishing Whaea Ana was that much fun!

Here's Maraea and one of our new TWA students teaching Tepua and Legion some new vocab.  So impressive to see our girls step up like this.

Precious, Dexarne and Myra did a great job with Desianae, LeOne, Tayric and Jodeci. I could see they were totally enjoying their activity.

Seranade and Tamara were very well prepared, which was lucky because I think Tristan surprised them with his quick grasp of the ideas!

Well done to Jade, first week in Ruma Tui23 and she's already doing great learning.  Memphys hard at work there too, Ka Pai to mahi Memphys!

Hmmmm... Love the way this boy puts his whole mind to the task at hand.

Happy and smiley working with Leilani-Mei, Naomi and Tiare.

Ngateria was pretty lucky to get one on one time with Souad and the icecream activity!!

Jada and Christina had created a really neat activity and did well to try and explain it to their group, when it was too hard they just adapted and kept going... Tau Ke!
I can see Khian listening hard, Sieni and Aden too - none of them listen like that to me!!! I might have to get tips off these girls.

Christina's a natural... working with Sieni so patiently.

Cassidy, Blair and Grace had a great time with Emma and Chloe!!  Ka Pai korua!
It was lovely to see Emma so grown up and taking on such a responsible role.

Jodeci you have come so far in just one Term! I am so proud of the way you are completely focussing on your own learning and I can see your brain growing everday!!
Tino Rawe e koe!
